In the meeting, the two religious leaders underlined the need for promoting human fraternity in the world, according to Al-Ain daily.
In his remarks, the head of the Catholic Church called for more cooperation between the Vatican and Al-Azhar in enhancing the culture of peaceful coexistence.
He also said major religious institutions play a major role in fostering values such as peace and compassion in the world, saying the Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together is a helpful document on this path.
Sheikh Tayeb, for his part, said the meeting was an emphasis on the need for sticking to fraternity.
Pope and Tayeb signed the Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together during a Global Conference on the topic in Abu Dhabi in February.
